Harsco's Heckett Multiserv Division Expands Services To Canada's Largest Steel Producer
HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Diversified industrial services and products company Harsco Corporation (NYSE: HSC), announced today that its Heckett MultiServ Division has secured new long-term contracts that renew and expand its ongoing mill services support to Canada's largest steel producer, Stelco Inc. The multi-year agreements cover services to Stelco's Hilton Works facility in Hamilton, ON and its Lake Erie Steel Company operations in Nanticoke, ON. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
At the Hilton Works facility, Heckett MultiServ will implement its new Differential Global Positioning System satellite tracking technology to manage the storage and retrieval of steel slab inventories. The Heckett MultiServ system represents the latest advancement in real-time slab location identification. Providing an accuracy of one meter or less, the system is designed for improved efficiency in the recording and monitoring of slabs using computerized data tracking. Heckett MultiServ will supply and maintain four articulated slab carriers to provide slab and bloom movements to various departments within the Hilton Works as well as transport slabs to a rail siding for off-site shipment. Harsco announced also that the Hilton Works has extended Heckett MultiServ's primary slag handling and metal reclamation services contract. Heckett MultiServ has provided slag handling and metallic recovery services at the Hilton Works for over 50 years.
At Lake Erie Steel, Heckett MultiServ has renewed its contract for the briquetting of resource recovery materials for use as Blast Furnace feed. Heckett MultiServ expects to produce in excess of 100,000 tons of briquetted product per year. Heckett MultiServ's improved briquetting system includes enhanced processing, handling, and curing techniques, supported by extensive research and testing of a new, more environmentally friendly binder system. In addition, Heckett MultiServ will make available an on-site, mobile FerroCut(TM) robotic torch cutting system at the Lake Erie Steel plant. Heckett MultiServ will be responsible for scrap handling, cutting revert scrap metal to specified sizes, and delivering the prepared scrap to the customer's scrap yard. Incorporating Heckett MultiServ's advanced scrap-cutting technology, the equipment includes a fume controlled, trailer-mounted processing unit that can be readily transported to other local steelmaking facilities to process temporary backlogs of material at times when Lake Erie Steel's scrap inventories are low. Heckett MultiServ's relationship with the Lake Erie Steel mill has continued without interruption since the start-up of operations nearly 20 years ago.
